SMBs in Nigeria are set to benefit from this new Tiktok and ICC partnership

Small and medium businesses (SMBs) in Nigeria are set to receive a serious boost through the all-new Digital Commerce Labs, a product of a partnership between TikTok and the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC).

The new Digital Commerce Labs is a global program that supports micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises by leveraging digital commerce. The new commerce tool is live in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia and aims to build on TikTok’s existing community, with runs in the hundreds of millions.

“ICC and TikTok have joined forces to create the Digital Commerce Labs, a free-of-charge programme designed to help businesses and entrepreneurs build a strong digital presence, reach more customers and grow confidently in today’s digital economy,” the ICC announced on its website.

“With its comprehensive approach, the Digital Commerce Labs are designed to support businesses of all maturity levels, whether you’re taking your first step online or ready to scale,” it added.

TikTok is bringing its massive reach and digital commerce tool suite to the partnership. The ICC, on the other hand, is bringing its corporate structure, its existing network of national trade bodies, its expertise in international trade, and its access to training and mentorship.

Small and medium businesses in Nigeria will expect to receive training and exposure to the latest digital tools. They can leverage these tools to boost their revenue, scale their businesses, and build local and international customer bases.

Reacting to the partnership, the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce, John W.H. Denton AO, stated that the new partnership drives home the body’s efforts to build an accessible global economy.

” This partnership marks a powerful step forward in our mission to build a more inclusive, dynamic, and accessible global economy. By joining forces with TikTok to launch the Digital Commerce Labs, we are equipping entrepreneurs and small businesses across ten markets with the practical tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive in the digital age. Ultimately, this initiative is about impact: unlocking opportunity, strengthening resilience, and ensuring that the benefits of digital commerce are shared more widely. Together, we are helping shape a more inclusive future for businesses globally,” Denton said.

TikTok, represented by its acting head of Government Relations & Public Policy for Sub-Saharan Africa, Tokunbo Ibrahim, also reacted to the partnership. He responded by listing the government agencies on board with the new development and how small businesses can leverage the new resource.

We’ve seen how small businesses can grow rapidly on TikTok by connecting with communities in authentic ways. This has reinforced the importance of educating small business owners on how to go beyond visibility to actively support their long-term success. Our partnership with the International Chamber of Commerce, NITDA and Lagos State Employment Trust Fund is an important step in that direction, equipping entrepreneurs with the resources they need to scale and thrive,” said Ibrahim.

The Digital Commerce Labs is live in ten countries across Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia. Nigeria represents Africa on the list, and its regulatory bodies are already aligned with TikTok and the ICC.

TikTok is reportedly the leading social media platform in Nigeria in terms of potential advertising reach. The platform boasts about 47.8 million users, a whopping 23.9% of Nigeria’s population.
