WhatsApp is one of Meta’s older acquisitions, at first maintaining a fiercely independent identity. But recent years have seen the messaging platform gradually align with Meta’s ecosystem. If you’re like me and sick of manually copying Instagram links, Meta just released a feature that lets you share your Instagram posts directly to WhatsApp status with one tap.

There are no extra hacks—your Meta accounts are already connected, and it’s totally an opt-in feature promising to keep your phone number and core WhatsApp experience separate. Right now, the feature’s rolling out slowly, so don’t panic if you can’t find it yet.

But when it hits your phone, you’ll want to know exactly how to use it. Scroll down for the step-by-step guide that’ll help you master this new sharing experience.

How to share Instagram Reels to Whatsapp status today (No-links)

To use the new crosspost feature from Instagram, the post must be a video reel. Still images are not yet supported.

Step 1: Open Instagram and find the reel you want to share on your WhatsApp status.

Step 2: Tap the kite-shaped icon.

Step 3: Select the ‘WhatsApp Status’ option.

Step 4: Since audio isn’t supported, tap “Share without audio” and let it load.

Step 5: It will redirect you to WhatsApp automatically. Proceed to post it as your status like you normally would.

That’s it!

Other ways to share your Instagram Reels on WhatsApp

As mentioned above, the feature might not yet be available to you. If it isn’t, here are alternative methods to reach your WhatsApp contacts:

  • Share the reel’s link with your WhatsApp contacts using the ‘Copy link’ button.
  • Download the reel and upload it to WhatsApp manually.
  • Use the WhatsApp Icon and share.
  • Share via the “Share To” option and post it as a status on WhatsApp.

You’ll find these alternative options by tapping the kite icon first. Among them, downloading the reel is the only way to retain its original audio on WhatsApp.
