YouTube has revamped its time management settings to include a zero-minute time limit option that effectively removes Shorts completely from your app.
The option is available for both iOS and Android users and is an update to the Shorts timer feature that YouTube originally announced in October last year. The lowest previous option was 15 minutes.
The new feature is part of the video-sharing app’s parental controls, which allow parents to limit the time their kids spend on the app. YouTube’s spokesperson, Makenzie Spiller, confirmed the feature is now live for all parents and was equally rolled out for everyone, including users with adult accounts.
Before the zero-minute feature was introduced, the Shorts timer let you control how long you spent scrolling through videos. This new feature removes Shorts entirely from your YouTube app when enabled, reducing the risk of spending long hours doomscrolling.
When not set to zero minutes, the time management feature reduces your YouTube Shorts time to your preset limit, halting the experience when you reach it. To turn on the timer, go to the YouTube app settings and select “time management”. Then, turn on the Shorts feed limit toggle and select a time limit for your Shorts experience.
What is the Average Length of YouTube Short Videos
A study conducted by Inflow Network on 5,400 short videos revealed that the Average length of YouTube Shorts is between 20 and 40 Seconds. The study also revealed that 30- to 40-second videos are the favourites for most creators; however, 50- to 60-second videos had the highest views.

In 2026, YouTube Shorts gets 200 billion views daily with over 2 billion monthly active users. The largest viewer demographic on the video-sharing app is aged 25 to 34, making up 21.3% of all users. Over 70% of Shorts are longer than 15 seconds, and 17% of Shorts views are from the Entertainment category.
Despite the massive reach, creators don’t earn much from the feature, as the average Creator earns $0.01 to $0.06 per 1,000 views.
