Leatherback rebrands to Foren two months after Zedcrest acquisition

Leatherback has been rebranded to Foren, two months after the fintech was acquired by Zedcrest Group.

The rebrand completes a transition that has been two years in the making and began with founder and CEO Ibrahim Ibitade stepping down from his role in October 2024. Ibitade was replaced by Toni Campbell, who exited the company in June 2025.

A new management team was appointed subsequently, with the fintech signalling a change in strategy to go after enterprises rather than the consumer focus it had entertained up to that point.

“For two years we’ve been rebuilding everything a customer relies on but rarely sees,” Ochebhoya Ekpete, CEO of Foren, said. “Along the way, we brought in a new management team and, in July, became part of Zedcrest Group.”

“By the time that work was done, we were a different company, and Leatherback no longer described us.”

The new identity is intended to reflect the business it has become after two years of rebuilding, rather than simply represent a change in its visual identity.

The company says the rebrand follows a complete overhaul of its technology, compliance systems and regulatory capabilities and is intended to communicate greater dependability to customers.

Foren is now positioned as a financial platform for companies that operate across borders. Its offering brings global accounts, international collections, cross-border payouts and foreign exchange into a single platform, with treasury management also included.

The company says the decision to change its name only after the operational overhaul was deliberate.

“Changing the name earlier would have been a promise we hadn’t yet kept,” the company said. “Changing it now means the name reflects something real.”

For customers, the company says the transition will include revamped web and mobile applications, faster onboarding, and additional payment corridors. Existing Leatherback customers will retain their accounts and migrate to the new Foren applications.

The rebrand comes after Zedcrest completed its acquisition of Leatherback in July 2026, giving the fintech what it describes as a stronger capital base and institutional backing.

Since the acquisition, the company says it has increased investment in governance and brought in additional expertise across compliance, product, legal and finance.

Foren is targeting businesses that need to manage multiple currencies, collect payments from overseas customers, and pay suppliers in other markets.

The shift marks a significant change from Leatherback’s earlier positioning, with Foren now focused on building infrastructure for businesses operating across borders rather than primarily serving individual consumers.
