Honeywell has deployed its Forge Plant Cognition AI system at Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Nigeria, and estimates it could deliver more than $60 million in yearly benefits when the refinery runs at full capacity.

The system uses AI to help workers spot problems, improve production and make better decisions. Honeywell announced the deployment on October 26, 2026.

The company estimates that the system could bring more than 29 cents in benefits for every barrel processed at the refinery.

The platform uses AI tools from NVIDIA to study refinery data and help workers troubleshoot problems. It can also create digital copies of equipment and processes, allowing engineers to study how they work and test changes.

Other NVIDIA tools will help the system spot unusual activity in video footage and build AI models based on the laws of physics. Dell Technologies will provide the computing systems needed to run the platform and help set it up.

Rajesh Gattupalli, president of Honeywell Technologies UOP, said: “By collaborating with Dangote to launch Forge Plant Cognition, we are demonstrating how AI can help transform industrial operations.”

David Bird, CEO and managing director of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, said the company chose the system to improve its operations, get more value from its work and change how it manages its equipment.

Dangote plans to increase the refinery’s processing capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day within three years. Honeywell said it is helping improve the refinery’s current operations and speed up work to add more capacity.

Honeywell also said the AI system would help refinery workers find technical information and solve problems
