Nigerian BNPL startup Klump shuts down after five years

Klump, a Nigerian buy now, pay later (BNPL) startup, has shut down, according to a post by its co-founder and CEO, Celestine Omin.

“Today, with heavy hearts, we are announcing that Klump is shutting down. We are proud of what we built. Few things are as fulfilling as watching people use a product that once existed only in your imagination,” Omin wrote in a blog post published on Sunday.

Omin co-founded the startup with Olufunbi Falayi in 2021 to bring buy now, pay later capabilities to Nigerians shopping online. Its flagship product, Pay with Klump, allowed customers to buy products immediately and spread payments across four instalments, while giving merchants another way to convert shoppers who might otherwise abandon their carts.
