Shola Akinlade helped redefine what an African payments company could become. He co-founded Paystack, one of Nigeria's most admired payment platforms, and sold the company to Stripe for $200 million in 2020. Rather than treating the exit as an endpoint, Akinlade continued building, expanding Paystack across African markets while developing new products including Zap and assembling the broader The Stack Group. His influence extends beyond Paystack's transaction volumes: he helped establish a new benchmark for African fintech execution, product design and global ambition.
