The fintech that plans to simplify international payments for millions of Nigerians

Nigeria’s digital economy is blossoming, with young freelancers working for foreign clients, students paying tuition abroad, and businesses serving international customers. Yet, millions of Nigerians continue to navigate high transfer fees, inconsistent virtual dollar cards, foreign-exchange uncertainty, and delayed settlements. This is the gap that OnePurze is betting on fixing.

Newly launched Lagos-based fintech, OnePurze, is entering the market with a clear ambition: to simplify local and international payments through a single digital platform. The company believes Nigerians should not have to juggle multiple financial apps just to send money abroad, receive foreign payments, or subscribe to global online services.

Co-founded by established real estate entrepreneur Ologun Damilola and technology executive Bako David, the pair built the company after observing how difficult international payments had become for everyday Nigerians. This explains why OnePurze is targeting freelancers, creators, remote workers, students, entrepreneurs, and families receiving remittances worldwide.

OnePurze offers services such as local bank transfers, international money transfers, multi-currency accounts, bill payments, and virtual dollar cards in one application. While these offerings are already available across Nigeria’s competitive fintech landscape, OnePurze is betting that ease of use, transparent pricing, and dependable service will help it attract users looking for a more seamless experience.

The fintech has already onboarded close to 1,000 customers organically without relying on paid advertising. Understandably, the figure is modest compared to established players in Nigeria’s fintech ecosystem. Still, the founders believe the numbers validate their hypothesis that there’s strong demand for fast and reliable cross-border payment solutions.

An answer to cross-border payments problems

At the centre of OnePurze’s strategy is cross-border money movement.

As remote work and digital entrepreneurship continue to expand across Africa, more people are earning income from international clients and need financial tools that work across borders to support their families back home.

With OnePurze, users can send, receive, and hold funds in several foreign currencies, including the US dollar, British pound, euro, Canadian dollar and South African rand. Rather than focusing solely on transfers, the company says it wants users to manage both local and international finances from a single account, while avoiding hidden charges and unclear exchange rates.

Speaking during the company’s launch, co-founder Ologun Damilola said transparency remains one of the startup’s core principles.

“Trust is the foundation of every financial decision,” he said, adding that customers should always know exactly what they are paying and the exchange rate applied to every transaction.

Virtual Cards that actually works

Following years of restrictions on international transactions by several local bank-issued debit cards and the exorbitant prices charged by alternative options, Nigerians have been exploited in numerous ways, and OnePurze hopes to redefine that and offer Nigerians a better experience.

Furthermore, users often complain that one virtual card works for Netflix but fails with Amazon or other international merchants, forcing many people to maintain multiple cards across different fintech platforms.

OnePurze’s mission is to eliminate that inconvenience by offering a virtual dollar card that works across a broad range of international platforms, including PayPal, Amazon, Google, Meta, LinkedIn, and Canva, among others.

If the company consistently delivers on this promise, it could address one of the biggest pain points facing Nigerians when making international digital payments.

OnePurze Stablecoin

Another offering OnePurze hopes to win the market with is stablecoins. By enabling customers to send, receive, hold, and convert USD-backed stablecoins seamlessly within the OnePurze app, the company hopes to carve a niche for itself. Built for individuals, freelancers, businesses, and global merchants, OnePurze stablecoins provide a faster, more affordable, and secure way to transact across borders.

With OnePurze stablecoin, users can:

  • Hold digital dollars to help preserve value.
  • Receive international payments instantly.
  • Send cross-border payments with lower transaction costs.
  • Convert between Naira and supported stablecoins.
  • Pay merchants and business partners globally.
  • Manage both fiat and digital assets from a single platform.

Every transaction is protected by robust security measures, including customer verification (KYC), anti-money laundering (AML) controls, and transaction monitoring to promote a safe and compliant payment experience.

OnePurze Stablecoin is part of the company’s commitment to make global payments simple, accessible, and borderless—empowering users to move money quickly, confidently, and conveniently.

The launch of OnePurze is an ambitious project, and the founders seem ready for the challenges. Still, breaking into Nigeria’s fintech industry will not be easy, but you can’t bet against a determined player.

About OnePurze

Nigerian fintech OnePurze is already taking strong roots in the local market. Still, it has clear ambitions to spread its tentacles across the globe, helping Nigerians and Africans send and receive money with ease.

OnePurze is not just another fintech; it is positioning itself as a major financial innovator to watch. The company aims to bridge financial gaps and empower users with borderless payment solutions in an increasingly connected world.
