Techhaven Africa, a non-profit technology education community founded by Imole Oluyemi in 2017, proudly celebrates its eighth anniversary this year. Since its inception, Techhaven has empowered over 500 African youths and individuals from underserved communities with critical tech skills, enabling them to secure positions in leading companies across Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and beyond.
With a mission to address opportunity gaps within the tech industry, Techhaven Africa is making a significant impact, helping youths thrive in various roles, including Backend Engineering, Frontend Engineering, Product Management, Business Development, to name a few.
Rooted in Nigeria, Techhaven Africa’s reach extends to South Africa, the United Kingdom, and other countries worldwide, serving as a crucial gateway for underrepresented youth seeking careers in the global tech landscape.
The recent completion of her annual mentorship programme in a hybrid format marked a milestone, emphasising the future of work with a concentrated focus on artificial intelligence and career readiness.
In addition to its flagship program, Techhaven Africa hosts several impactful initiatives, including Techhaven Fireside Chats: A series featuring industry veterans addressing pressing questions from emerging tech talents. And the Securing & Thriving Series: A platform helping African tech professionals in the diaspora navigate global employment challenges.
Over the past eight years, participants have received more than 10,000 hours of invaluable mentorship from distinguished leaders, including Helen Oluyemi, a cybersecurity expert with diverse experience across telecoms and finance; Isobel Ashmore, Content Design Leader at NatWest Boxed; Barbra Okafor, Digital Strategist with a background at TikTok and the BBC; Kehinde Odewole, Alumnus and experienced Product Designer.
Speaking on the occasion of its eighth anniversary, Habibllahi Ewedairo (Techhaven Africa 2025 cohort), says, “Techhaven is an amazing platform for anyone starting their tech journey. The tutors are experienced and patient, taking time to explain concepts clearly. During my time, we learned the basics of PHP, worked with a framework, and also covered practical topics like form validation and handling user inputs.”
Fellow Techhaven community member, Cyril Ekpenyong, adds, “Techhaven gave me the structure, mentorship, and clarity I needed to grow both as a developer and an educator. It strengthened my vision for Erudite’s Coding Academy and inspired me to keep empowering young innovators.”
