Africa’s digital economy is booming on paper. Nigeria alone has over 100 million internet users, and across the continent, a generation of freelancers, remote workers, students and entrepreneurs has built entire livelihoods online.

But ask any of them what it actually takes to operate digitally in Nigeria, and the picture gets complicated fast.

You need a virtual number to verify an account on a foreign platform. You need a gift card to pay for an international subscription. You need an eSIM to stay connected while traveling. You need a reliable place to top up data, pay your electricity bill, and renew your cable subscription. Each of those needs has its own platform. Each platform has its own failure rate. Each failure costs time, money, and trust that’s hard to rebuild in a market already defined by scams and unreliable vendors.

This is the daily reality of millions of Africans trying to participate fully in a digital economy that wasn’t built with them in mind. It’s also the problem that pushed Kolawole Gracious to start Nexar. Nexar wasn’t built because Africa lacked digital services, it was built because using those services meant jumping between multiple apps, vendors and payment systems. Gracious and his team saw an opportunity to bring all of it under one roof.

What Nexar Is Building

Founded on a simple but ambitious premise, Nexar set out to put every digital solution an African internet user needs in one place, working reliably, and accessible to anyone.

The Nigerian platform offers virtual numbers across 180+ countries, eSIMs for international connectivity, gift cards from over 120 brands, social media growth solutions, instant airtime and data top-ups, electricity bill payments, cable TV subscriptions, and betting wallet funding. All of it, one platform.

This month, Nexar took that offering further with the launch of its mobile app on the App Store and Google Play, putting its full suite of solutions in users’ pockets for the first time.

“Our vision is to create a digital platform that revolutionizes how people connect and transact online,” says Kolawole Gracious, CEO of Nexar Digital Services. “We want our solutions to be versatile, innovative, and accessible to everyone, no matter where they are in the world.”

The platform has served over 100,000 users across more than 10 countries and completed over 200,000 orders since its founding.

The Bigger Picture

Africa’s digital economy is projected to contribute hundreds of billions to GDP over the coming decade. But that projection only holds if the infrastructure beneath it is reliable enough to support it.

Nexar isn’t the only platform operating in this space. But it’s one of the few taking the consolidation problem seriously; building broadly enough to cover the full range of what an African internet user actually needs, and backing it with a service record that has kept users coming back.

For the millions of Africans whose digital lives are still scattered across platforms that were never designed to work together, that matters more than most people realize.
