Fatu Ogwuche launches Tech This Week to bring African tech builders closer to audiences

Fatu Ogwuche, a former Meta executive and founder of Big Tech This Week, is launching Tech This Week, a weekly livestream that aims to give African technology builders a platform to explain industry developments beyond the headlines.

The show, which premieres Thursday on X and LinkedIn, comes as technology leaders increasingly influence sectors beyond technology, from entertainment and sports to public policy.

Ogwuche argues that despite this development, their public visibility often centres on funding announcements, product launches and controversies, leaving little room to examine the decisions shaping their businesses and the wider ecosystem.

For her, these expanding interests make it important to create new ways for audiences to engage with technology leaders. Tech This Week was partly inspired by changes in the local ecosystem and Ogwuche’s preference for media formats that allow for more direct engagement.

“The reason I started Tech This Week was to put out some of the content pieces or format I enjoy consuming media in,” she told Condia.

Inspired by live technology programming such as the Technology Business Programming Network (TBPN), the show will combine news analysis, interviews and debate.

Its premise is that audiences need to hear how builders interpret developments, explain their choices and respond to competing views.

Whether that format can deliver meaningful candour in Africa’s technology ecosystem remains an open question. Founders can be cautious about discussing sensitive industry issues publicly, particularly when comments could affect business relationships or regulatory engagement.

Ogwuche, however, does not expect guests to attack regulators or fellow entrepreneurs.

“If something is happening, you’ll be given an opportunity to come talk about it, but for me, I really want to focus on what is happening innovation-wise,” she said.

The show has already been tested in a live format at Stablecon, where it reportedly attracted nearly 30,000 live viewers across two days. Ogwuche also says sponsorships have been secured, with plans to bring in additional sponsors before February 2027.

Those early commitments provide a starting point, but Ogwuche shares that the ambition is to secure enough support to maintain programming for at least a year.

Tech This Week launches into an ecosystem whose builders have more public influence than ever. Whether it becomes a useful forum for understanding their work will depend not only on getting them in front of audiences but also on what they are prepared to discuss once they are there.
