Chowdeck launches in Ghana, eyeing continental growth

Chowdeck, one of Nigeria’s food delivery startups, has expanded beyond its home turf, and Ghana is the first stop. The move marks the company’s debut outside Nigeria and a significant step toward its ambitious goal of reaching 52 cities across Nigeria and other African countries by the end of 2025.

This expansion comes on the heels of explosive growth: from just 319 users in October 2021 to over 1 million users and ₦30 billion in transaction volume by the end of 2024. Though the specific city has not been disclosed.

Ghana shares similarities with Lagos, the startup’s strongest and most active market. The West African nation’s food delivery market is projected to hit $540.1 million by 2029, with a steady annual growth rate of 16.66%. The urban population is young, tech-savvy, and increasingly reliant on on-demand services.

Chowdeck’s expansion to Ghana is coming after its forbears in the food delivery space exited the space. Over the past two years, the duo of Jumia Food and Glovo quit Ghana, citing operational hurdles.

Unlike Nigeria, Ghana still has a tight race, with Uber Eats and Bolt Food firmly planted in urban centers like Accra, Tema, and Kumasi.

Nonetheless, Chowdeck is optimistic. “This expansion isn’t just a milestone for the business — it’s proof of what happens when vision meets opportunity,” said Jeremiah Izuagie, a business sales manager at the company. “As we grow, we’re expanding our partnerships beyond food — into entertainment, aviation, tech, and more. If you’re building for customers in Nigeria and want to unlock more value through delivery, advertising, or other creative solutions, we’re ready to collaborate.”
