Adegoke Olubusi steps down as Helium Health CEO after nearly a decade

Adegoke Olubusi has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of Helium Health, the Nigerian healthtech startup he co-founded in 2016 alongside Tito Ovia and Dimeji Sofowora.

His departure marks another major leadership transition for the company, following the exit of co-founder Tito Ovia in 2022. With Olubusi’s resignation, Dimeji Sofowora is now the only remaining co-founder actively leading the business. Although Helium Health has not publicly announced a successor, Sofowora is widely expected to assume a larger leadership role.

Under Olubusi’s leadership, Helium Health grew from a startup focused on digitising hospital records into one of Africa’s best-known healthcare technology companies. The company began by offering electronic medical records (EMR) and hospital management information systems before expanding into broader digital health solutions aimed at improving healthcare delivery.

Helium Health also became one of Nigeria’s earliest startups to join Y Combinator, participating in the Silicon Valley accelerator in 2017. Since then, the company has raised more than $50 million in venture capital and reportedly serves over 10,000 healthcare providers across sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.

Beyond Helium Health, Olubusi is also a co-founder of MAGIC Fund, an early-stage venture capital fund that has invested in more than 250 startups, including Bamboo, Indicina, Evolve Credit, and Mono.

While Olubusi has not publicly announced his next venture, his personal website describes him as a health AI researcher focused on using healthcare data to develop and improve artificial intelligence systems.

Helium Health has yet to comment publicly on the leadership transition or outline its succession plans.
