MTN Nigeria has launched its new Unlimited 5G Broadband Plans, positioning the move as a direct response to widespread complaints about rapid data depletion, rising tariffs, and unstable connectivity that have frustrated Nigerian users throughout the year.
Users are reporting that standard data bundles no longer last beyond a few days, especially after tariff adjustments that pushed up the cost of 1GB by more than 50%. MTN says the unlimited offering is designed to give heavy-use customers a stable, high-speed alternative.
The plans, available in 50Mbps and 100Mbps tiers, target streamers, remote workers, gamers, students, and smart homes seeking consistent speed and low latency. Customers who buy a 5G router get 30 days of unlimited data as a welcome bonus.
Egerton Idehen, MTN’s Chief Broadband Officer, said the goal is to deliver “speed, reliability, and affordability” while reducing the everyday pain of buffering, lag, and fast-vanishing data.
MTN is also pushing device-plus-data bundles to accelerate sign-ups, with options accessible via *461*1# USSD code, the MyMTN app, MTN eShop, or authorised stores.
In Nigeria’s 5G race, MTN offers wider coverage, faster speeds, and higher reliability, good for demanding users, while Airtel provides more affordable, value-focused unlimited plans (like 50/100 Mbps routers), great for budget-conscious users needing stability in cities, with both competing with similar unlimited data offerings for home broadband routers.
