Lagos’ smart mobility platform, Lagride, has introduced the Omni, a low-cost, air-conditioned shared-ride service designed to modernize the city’s public transport system. a major upgrade from the unpredictable experience of traditional Korope minibuses.
The new service promises a safer, smarter, and cleaner alternative to the Korope minibuses that dominate Lagos roads, while offering comfort and convenience to individuals, offices, churches, and schools.
The launch comes a day after a Bolt mobility report revealed that Nigerian commuters, especially women, are choosing ride-hailing platforms for two main reasons: safety and convenience. Lagride’s new Omni directly targets these pain points by combining affordability, technology, and comfort in one service.
Each Lagride Omni seats up to six passengers and offers a fully air-conditioned, GPS-enabled interior. The service allows group bookings for offices, churches, and communities through the Lagride app or WhatsApp, providing private, direct rides with zero stops.
According to Mr. Jubril Arogundade, Acting Managing Director of Lagride, the Omni was designed to meet the real mobility needs of Lagosians who move together daily.
“With the Lagride Omni, one person can make a single booking and everyone joins the same ride,” Arogundade said. “From offices to churches and community events, this is how Lagos will move together safely, conveniently, and in comfort.”
The service is also affordably priced, aligning with Lagride’s recent 40% fare discount campaign for riders across Lagos, which the company launched in October 2025 to encourage wider adoption of regulated ride-hailing over unsafe alternatives.
Unlike the unregulated Korope system, every Omni vehicle is operated by professionally trained drivers who undergo certification at the Lagride Academy, developed in partnership with the Lagos State Government and transport safety agencies such as the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The academy ensures drivers are not the touts commonly found in informal transport but skilled professionals trained in customer service and safety compliance.
Chief Diana Chen, Chairman of Lagride, described the Omni as a major milestone in the company’s mission to democratize mobility in Africa’s largest city.
“Mobility is one of the greatest drivers of opportunity,” she said. “By making modern transport affordable and accessible to every segment of society, Lagride is helping to build a more connected Lagos where movement creates meaning and community thrives.”
Beyond providing safer rides, Lagride is also using the Omni project to empower 1,000 new drivers through professional training and income opportunities. Each driver will be certified before deployment, creating a sustainable pipeline of skilled operators for Lagos’ expanding transport network.
Arogundade emphasized that the initiative is both a transport innovation and an empowerment program.
“We are creating opportunities for Lagosians to earn sustainable income while providing a better commuting experience for everyone,” he added. “The Omni combines innovation with inclusion, and its impact will be felt across every community in the city.”
As more Lagosians embrace cashless, coordinated, and climate-friendly transport, services like Lagride Omni may well mark the beginning of the end for the Korope era.
