CANAL+ has revealed the appointment of its new leadership team for Africa, following the successful integration of MultiChoice Group into its operations across the continent. This consolidates over 10,000 jobs and unites more than 40 million subscribers under one media powerhouse.
The new structure sees Calvo Mawela, outgoing CEO of MultiChoice, appointed as Chairman of CANAL+ Africa, while David Mignot assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the combined business. The top management team has been drawn from both CANAL+ and MultiChoice, with each company contributing equally to the executive pool.
“We have an incredible Africa leadership team with an exceptional track record across the continent and within the global group,” said Mignot. “Working together, we will deliver growth by telling unique, high-quality African stories, bringing great international content to our subscribers, and leveraging our scale across the global company.”
The leadership announcement comes shortly after CANAL+ effectively took control of MultiChoice in September 2025, when its mandatory takeover offer became unconditional. A detailed plan for the integration is expected in early 2026.
One key strategic thrust accompanying the merger is the intention to export select locally produced content to international markets. As reported by Technext24, CANAL+ plans to utilize its StudioCanal arm to market hit South African series, such as Spinners and Shaka iLembe, abroad after vetting them for international standards. This approach is expected to open new revenue streams and elevate African storytelling on the global stage.
The new leadership team will operate as a single management unit covering the entire African continent, structured into three divisions: Operations (TV and Fibre activities), Content, and Corporate Functions.
