Which teams are qualified to play in the Club World Cup?

This year’s field includes 32 clubs from six confederations, though some notable absences might surprise you. While Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City made the cut, big names like Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United missed out based on recent UEFA competition performances.

Inter Miami earned their spot as tournament hosts, bringing Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba to the party. However, Cristiano Ronaldo fans will be disappointed—his Al Nassr side didn’t qualify, with Al Hilal representing Saudi Arabia instead.

Who are the current FIFA Club World Cup champions?

Manchester City holds the title as reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions after their 2023 victory. The Premier League side has been champions for over a year, as the 2024 edition was skipped to make way for this expanded format. They’ll be looking to defend their crown against a much larger and more competitive field this time around.

When do the African clubs play in the Club World Cup?

Al Ahly (Egypt), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), and Wydad AC (Morocco) are Africa’s representatives at this summer’s expanded Club World Cup in the U.S.

Al Ahly qualified by winning the 2022–23 CAF Champions League, while Espérance, Sundowns, and Wydad join as top-ranked African clubs based on continental competition results from 2021 to 2024.
