Tecno Camon 40 Pro vs. Infinix Note 50 Pro: Which phone solves your problems better?

Two phones, similar prices, different solutions. The Tecno Camon 40 Pro (₦360,000) and Infinix Note 50 Pro (₦370,000) launched just weeks apart, continuing the fierce rivalry between two of Nigeria’s biggest smartphone brands. Both promise to fix your daily smartphone frustrations—but they take completely different approaches.

Instead of drowning you in spec sheets, let’s see how each phone handles the problems that actually matter in daily life.

Problem 1: “My selfies look like garbage”

You’re at a wedding, the lighting is terrible, and your front camera makes you look like you’re broadcasting from 2015.

Infinix Note 50 Pro’s Camera: A decent 32MP front camera that does the job in good lighting but struggles when conditions get challenging. Selfies come out acceptable for Instagram stories, but don’t expect miracles in dim restaurants or during evening hangouts.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro’s Camera: A 50MP front camera with autofocus—something almost unheard of in this price range. The difference is immediately noticeable. Selfies are sharper, video calls are clearer, and the autofocus means you’re never stuck with blurry shots even when you’re moving. The natural color tones avoid the over-saturated look that screams “budget phone.”

Which has the best front camera? Tecno Camon 40 Pro.

Problem 2: “My phone battery dies quickly”

You’re in the middle of an important WhatsApp business call when your battery hits 5%. Or worse, you’re navigating through Lagos or Nairobi traffic and your phone shuts down.

Infinix Note 50 Pro’s Solution: Brute force charging. The 90W fast charging is legitimately insane—this phone goes from dead to fully charged in under 30 minutes. Yugatech’s PC Mark Battery Test, results record a 20% to 100% in just 45 minutes. Plus, it has wireless charging at 30W, so you can just drop it on a pad without fumbling for cables.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro’s Solution: Endurance strategy. While it only has 45W charging (still fast, taking about 46 minutes for a full charge), the PCMark battery test showed it lasting 14 hours and 26 minutes compared to the Infinix’s 13 hours and 6 minutes. It simply drains slower.

Which has the longest battery life? Tecno Camon 40 Pro keeps you running longer.

Problem 3: “I drop my phone and my heart stops”

That sickening moment when your phone slips from your hands, and you’re not sure if you just destroyed your primary communication device.

Infinix Note 50 Pro’s build: This is where things get interesting. The ArmorAlloyâ„¢ frame combines aerospace-grade aluminium with Damascus steel—the only phone in this price range with this tech. It’s TÜV SÜD certified for drop resistance, meaning it passed actual drop tests. Plus IP64 rating protects against dust and light splashes. At 7.3mm thick despite the 5,200mAh battery, it’s remarkably slim, and that matte finish repels fingerprints while feeling premium.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro’s build: IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance with Gorilla Glass 7i protection—features rarely found in this price segment. During Allroundreview’s testing, it survived deliberate water submersion. However, the all-plastic chassis, while lightweight at 179 grams, feels less premium and is more susceptible to scratches. The curved screen edges look elegant, but can cause accidental touches and make finding screen protectors tricky.

Winner: Infinix Note 50 Pro. That ArmorAlloy frame with actual drop certification beats plastic construction, even with the Tecno’s superior water resistance. The Note 50 Pro is built to survive real-world accidents.

Problem 4: “My phone feels outdated after one year”

You buy a phone and six months later, you’re stuck with outdated software while watching other people get new features.

Infinix Note 50 Pro’s OS: Two years of major Android updates. It’s decent but not exceptional—you’ll get security patches and maybe one major OS upgrade.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro’s OS: Three years of software updates. In a market where phones often get abandoned after launch, this extra year of support makes a significant difference for resale value and long-term usability.

Winner: Tecno Camon 40 Pro.

Problem 5: “Games lag during the good parts”

You’re finally about to win that PUBG match or defeat the opposition in Call of Duty Mobile, then everything stutters and you lose because of lag, not skill.

Inside Infinix Note 50 Pro: Raw power through memory. With 12GB of RAM (expandable to 24GB virtually), it keeps more apps in memory and switches between them seamlessly. The MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate handles CODM on medium settings without breaking a sweat. Plus, that 144Hz display makes everything feel incredibly smooth, like gaming on a high-end monitor.

Inside Tecno Camon 40 Pro: Balanced performance with the Dimensity 7300 chipset, scoring around 690,000 on AnTuTu versus Infinix’s more modest numbers. However, it comes with either 8GB or 12GB RAM configurations, and the thermal management during extended gaming sessions is notably better.

Winner: Infinix Note 50 Pro. The higher refresh rate display, combined with generous RAM, makes mobile gaming feel more premium, even if both phones struggle with the most demanding titles on high settings.

Problem 6: “My photos look fake and oversaturated”

Everything you shoot looks like it went through an Instagram filter from 2012, colours are too bright, skin tones are weird, and nothing looks natural.

Infinix Note 50 Pro’s Take: The 50MP main camera produces pleasant images in good lighting with decent clarity, but the dynamic range is limited. In high-contrast scenes, shadows lose detail, and the colour processing sometimes pushes vibrancy too far. Low-light photography reveals the camera’s limits with softer textures and reduced colour accuracy.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro’s Philosophy: Natural colour profiles that avoid oversaturation. The 50MP main sensor delivers crisp, detailed images with impressive clarity and realistic tones. The camera consistently produces shots that look like what your eyes actually saw, not what an algorithm thinks you wanted to see. Plus, the FlashSnap Mode uses AI to capture moving subjects without blur, perfect for kids or pets.

Winner: Tecno Camon 40 Pro.

Problem 7: “My phone is spamming me with ads and junk apps”

You buy a phone, and it immediately starts showing you ads in notifications, the lock screen, and even system settings. Plus, there are dozens of apps you didn’t ask for eating up storage and cluttering your home screen.

Infinix Note 50 Pro’s Reality: XOS 15 is still weighed down by heavy bloatware and persistent ads. Users report pre-installed apps like Palm Store and AHA Games that can’t easily be removed, along with ads showing up in notifications, the lock screen, and even system settings. While the phone offers solid performance on paper, the software experience feels cluttered, and many users end up disabling or force-removing apps just to keep things smooth.

Tecno Camon 40 Pro’s Reality: HiOS 15 offers a noticeably cleaner experience. It comes with far fewer preloaded apps, most of which can be uninstalled or ignored without much fuss. Ads are rare, and the interface feels more streamlined. While both phones come from the same Transsion family, the Camon 40 Pro stands out for having less software friction.

Winner: Tecno Camon 40 Pro.

Which Pro phone should you buy?

This isn’t a tie. In a head-to-head test across seven everyday pain points, the Tecno Camon 40 Pro scored five wins, from camera performance and battery life to software experience and durability.

The Infinix Note 50 Pro, on the other hand, stood out in gaming and charging speed, leaning more into power features.

So, which should you buy?

Choose the Infinix Note 50 Pro if:

  • You want ultra-fast charging and wireless convenience
  • Gaming performance and a high-refresh 144Hz display matter to you
  • You need more RAM for heavy multitasking

Choose the Tecno Camon 40 Pro if:

  • You take a lot of photos and prefer natural-looking results
  • You want better durability (IP68 rating) and longer battery life
  • You value clean software and longer OS support

At ₦360,000 vs ₦370,000, price isn’t the deciding factor here. For most users, the Tecno Camon 40 Pro offers a better long-term experience, with more consistent strengths across the board. But if speed and gaming top your list, the Note 50 Pro delivers where it counts.

Availability

Both phones are largely available across online and retail outlets in Nigeria, including Jumia, Slot, Pointek, and authorised stores.

The Tecno Camon 40 Pro comes in both 5G and non-5G variants.

The Infinix Note 50 Pro is available only in a 4G version, though some stores offer promotional bundles with accessories or mobile data.

Keep in mind that pricing may vary slightly by location or whether you’re buying on installment.
