Chukwujioke and Miracle Anyanwu launched Wirepay in 2020, a consumer app for international payments in fiat and crypto. Businesses started asking for access to what sat underneath it. In August 2022 they turned the plumbing into the product and called it Maplerad: accounts, cards, FX and payouts through an API, with the compliance, bank relationships and licensing handled on their side.
Two months later Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures led a $6 million seed at a $30 million valuation. Michael Vaughn, formerly COO of Venmo, and Kuda's Babs Ogundeyi came in on the round. The company now operates across more than ten countries.
