Gwera Kiwana

Kiwana has worked at nearly every layer of this space. She ran her own African cross-border payments venture and then joined Monzo to scale financial crime operations and internal products while the bank grew from a hundred thousand customers to four million, won its banking licence and entered the US.

At the consultancy 11:FS she advised neobanks, fintechs, regulators and incumbents and built the firm's web3 advisory practice. She then spent 28 months at Onafriq, Africa's largest payments gateway, as VP of Partnerships and Blockchain Payments — the first crypto hire in the building.

She moved to Morse, the stablecoin payments app formerly called Sling Money, to run global expansion. She also named the thesis half this industry runs on without crediting her: the crypto mullet. Fintech in the front, crypto in the back. The user sees an app that sends money. Settlement happens on a chain they will never hear about.
