Selar tuition fund returns to support 50 final-year students with tuition grants

The largest creator platform in Africa, Selar, is back with its tuition support initiative, the ‘Selar Tuition Fund,’ for its second year, continuing its mission to support final-year students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. This year, Selar will award ₦100,000 each to 50 students to help cover their tuition fees.

With tuition fees in Nigerian universities rising by over 200%, education has become increasingly inaccessible. As a result, Nigeria now has the highest dropout rate in Africa at 16.9%, with financial hardship as a major factor. Studies also show that 80% of Nigeria’s unemployed population have only completed secondary school or less, further highlighting the need for educational support.

“Last year when we launched this initiative, we were blown away by the number of applications we received. Over 9,000 students applied for it. Fifty (50) is a drop in the bucket compared to those numbers, but it was a powerful reminder of how many young Nigerians are eager for opportunities to fund their education without resorting to unnecessary vices. Of course, with this reality, we’re more than happy to do this again, and possibly every year from now,” said Douglas Kendyson, CEO of Selar.

Since its launch last year, the Selar Tuition Fund has helped students stay in school and graduate successfully. Past beneficiaries have shared how the initiative made a difference in their academic journey:

“I was struggling to complete my final-year clearance when I received the Selar Tuition Fund. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to process my graduation. Thanks to Selar, I am now a graduate, and I couldn’t be more grateful for their support.” Adewuyi Genesis – a beneficiary of 2024 Selar Tuition Fund said

“The Selar Tuition Fund came through for me just when my school increased tuition fees. I had no idea how I was going to pay, and this support was truly a lifeline. Because of Selar, I was able to pay my final-year fees and complete my studies. I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity” Chijikoke Charlse – another beneficiary disclosed.
