MultiChoice Kenya has raised prices for its DStv and GOtv packages starting August 1, 2025, marking the sixth price hike since March 2022. Previous increases happened in March 2022, July 2023, November 2023, April 2024, and March 2025. While this latest change is smaller than past ones, many viewers are growing tired of the frequent adjustments.

For example, DStv Premium will now cost KES 11,700 ($90.55), up from KES 11,000 ($85.14), and Compact Plus will go up to KES 7,300 ($56.49). GOtv Supa Plus will now cost KES 3,199 ($24.76). Although not as steep as the April 2024 hike, when some plans rose by KES 800 ($6.192). It still adds pressure on households already struggling with high living costs.

This comes at a time when MultiChoice is losing customers. The company recently reported a drop of 1.2 million subscribers across Africa, mostly due to rising prices and fewer people sticking with traditional TV. In response, it has slashed Showmax streaming prices, with some plans now as low as KES 200 ($1.5623) to attract younger users who prefer mobile content.

At the same time, MultiChoice is awaiting final approval of a major merger with France’s Canal+, which could change the media landscape in Africa. It’s also dealing with a ₦766 million fine in Nigeria for mishandling user data.

This new price hike shows how MultiChoice is trying to survive tough times by charging more for TV while making streaming cheaper. But it’s unclear if this strategy will work or just push more customers away.
