LagRide, the ride-hailing platform operated by CIG Group, is offering a 40% discount for riders between September 24 and October 13, 2025, to ease the burden of commuting for Lagosians as heavy rains and flooding continue to disrupt daily life across the city.

The discount campaign comes at a time when LagRide is expanding its offerings in the competitive ride-hailing market. Just days earlier, the company revealed plans to deploy 10,000 new cars and drivers before the December travel rush under its Drive-to-Own and Drive-to-Earn schemes. The initiative, backed by Nigerian banks, signals LagRide’s ambition to challenge the dominance of Uber, Bolt, and InDrive by combining affordability, safety, and long-term ownership opportunities for drivers.

In addition to the discount, LagRide has widened its in-app ride options. Customers can now choose between eco-friendly electric vehicles for sustainable trips, a pro category that features brand-new cars with professionally trained captains, and verified transport for everyday needs. This multi-category approach is intended to give Lagosians the flexibility to select the right ride for different occasions, whether it is a daily commute, a business meeting, or a night out.

The platform is preparing to launch LagRide Omni, a minibus category designed for families, groups, and commuters. The new option will be spacious enough to carry six passengers and luggage, positioning it as a practical solution for school runs, office commutes, weekend trips, and social outings. By combining space, safety, affordability, and dignity, the company says Omni will redefine group mobility in Lagos.

Chief Diana Chen, Chairman of CIG Group and LagRide, described the latest initiatives as an expression of the company’s social commitment. “When people move safely, affordably, and with dignity, families flourish, businesses thrive, and communities feel stronger. With Omni launching soon, we are addressing group needs in ways no platform has done before. And by offering a 40% discount during the rains, we are showing empathy and responsibility at a time when the city needs it most,” she said.

Jubril Arogundade, acting managing director of LagRide, stressed the importance of giving riders more options in how they travel. “Choice matters. That is why LagRide now offers EVs for cleaner trips, Pro for premium experiences, and Legacy for everyday mobility. Omni will soon join as the perfect option for families, colleagues, and groups of friends,” he said.

LagRide is positioning itself not only as an e-taxi service but also as a mobility platform with ambitions to become the most comprehensive in Nigeria. By focusing on both the rider experience and driver empowerment, the company is attempting to carve out a unique space in a market long dominated by global players.
