BREAKING: Airtel Money plans 2026 IPO amid fintech growth push

Airtel Africa has announced plans to take its mobile money unit, Airtel Money, public in the first half of 2026. This move comes after a previous plan to list in 2025 was delayed due to evolving market conditions.

“We are making significant progress in our preparations for the Airtel Money IPO and remain committed to this objective. However, we are also mindful of evolving market conditions. Therefore, subject to these conditions, we anticipate a listing event in the first half of calendar year 2026,” said Sunil Taldar, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa.

Airtel Money has been a significant growth driver for Airtel Africa. The service operates in 14 countries across the continent, including key markets like Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Gabon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2024, the mobile money unit reported a 33.3% increase in transaction value in constant currency, reaching an annualised value of $146 billion. The customer base also grew by 18.3%, totalling 44.3 million users.

The IPO is expected to unlock value for shareholders and attract new investments, further strengthening Airtel Money’s position in the African fintech landscape. The listing will also provide Airtel Africa with additional capital to expand its services and infrastructure across the continent.

“The recent stability in the operating environment is encouraging; however, we remain conscious of global developments that may impact our business. We will remain focused on delivering our strategy to transform the lives of our customers and support economic prosperity across our markets,” Taldar added.

As Airtel Africa continues to navigate the dynamic economic landscape, the upcoming IPO of Airtel Money marks a significant milestone in its journey to enhance financial inclusion and digital transformation across Africa.
