MTN Group, Africa’s telecommunications leader, has announced significant management changes as part of a strategic restructuring to drive future growth. The most notable change is the immediate departure of Frédéric Schepens, CEO of Bayobab, MTN’s infrastructure business.
In a statement, MTN thanked Schepens for his contributions, wishing him success in his future endeavours. His departure marks a key moment as the company aligns its leadership with its growth strategies.
The reshuffle includes several high-profile appointments across MTN’s operations in Africa. Wanda Matandela, currently chief commercial operations officer at MTN South Africa, will become CEO of MTN Cameroon on March 1, 2025. She will lead MTN Cameroon into its next phase of expansion.
Meanwhile, Mitwa Ng’ambi, the CEO of MTN Cameroon, will move to MTN Côte d’Ivoire on March 1, 2025. This follows the early retirement of Djibril Ouattara. Ng’ambi, formerly CEO of MTN Rwanda, will continue driving growth at MTN Côte d’Ivoire.
In another major move, Mazen Mroue, MTN Group’s chief technology and information officer, will take on the additional role of CEO for MTN’s digital infrastructure business. He will oversee Bayobab’s fibre and mobility businesses and lead the company’s data centre strategy.
“These leadership changes are a critical part of our strategy to position MTN Group for future growth and profitability,” the company said.
MTN Nigeria also announced three new members to its Board of Directors, effective January 2, 2025. The new appointees are Mrs. Eyitope Kola-Oyeniyi and Mr. Odumezuo Nwuneli as Independent Non-Executive Directors, alongside Mr. Tim Pennington as a Non-Executive Director.
Earlier this year, Adia Sowho, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, resigned after three years with the company, marking another leadership change.
