When can I get the One UI 7 update on my Samsung phone?

Samsung owners are keenly awaiting One UI 7, the next software interface bringing Android 15 to their Galaxy phones. After a 6-month delay, a public beta is now available, signaling that the wider release of One UI 7 is drawing closer for many Samsung devices.

As usual, this update promises significant changes, especially with new Galaxy AI features and improved security. While the beta offers a glimpse, the full scope of One UI 7 is still being discovered.

Originally expected around April 7, 2025, for older models after debuting on the Galaxy S25 series, a reported bug in the Galaxy S24 framework caused a temporary pause. This delay suggests that even users with the latest Galaxy S24 series, as well as upcoming foldable phones, might experience a slight wait. The question now is whether this will also push back the update for devices like the Galaxy S23.

Beyond the timing, One UI 7 introduces a redesigned home screen and camera app, along with the practical Now Bar feature and a helpful vertical app drawer.

Given the current beta status and the initial April expectation, the final release shouldn’t be too far off. We have answers to some of your questions for this upcoming update.

Let’s get into it.

When can i get the One UI 7 on my Samsung phone?

The release of One UI 7 has faced some unexpected challenges. Originally expected around April 7, 2025, for older models (after debuting on the Galaxy S25 series), Samsung has temporarily paused the global rollout due to a critical bug causing some Galaxy S24 devices to become unresponsive.

This delay was first noted by tech leaker IceUniverse and confirmed on Samsung’s community boards. This pause was implemented on April 14, 2025, and as of now, the update is no longer available on Samsung’s servers. Samsung has not yet provided a timeline for when the rollout will resume.

Rollout schedule (Prior to pause)

Samsung had planned a phased rollout:

  • April 7, 2025: Initial release in regions including Germany, South Korea, India, and the UK
  • April 10, 2025: Expansion to the United States and Canada
  • April 14, 2025: Further rollout to Malaysia and Singapore

The original schedule, which has now been delayed, included planned updates for various devices through May, including the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and select Galaxy A models.

One UI 7 stable update rollout (Tentative)

According to a new notice in the Samsung Members app spotted by a Reddit user and reported by 9to5Google, Samsung has pushed back the timeline significantly for most devices:

  • April 2025 (Tentative): Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold6, Z Flip6 (assuming Samsung can patch the issues that delayed the rollout)
  • May 2025: Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Fold4, Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip5, Z Flip4, Z Flip3, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 series
  • June 2025: Various tablets and remaining Galaxy devices
  • July 2025: Galaxy Tab A9 (the only device specifically mentioned for July release)

With most devices pushed back by approximately one month, the update for the Galaxy S23 series, which was originally planned for April, will now arrive in May.

It’s worth noting that One UI 7 includes Android 15, which was first released in October 2024 and still hasn’t reached many Samsung devices apart from the S25 series. If the anticipated One UI 8 release arrives on schedule, many users might experience a relatively short shelf life for One UI 7.

Meanwhile, other manufacturers like Vivo have already begun rolling out their stable Android 15-based updates, making them the first to officially deliver the new operating system to users.

A user from Germany also confirmed the new schedule.

Before the pause, the update was first released to:

What new features come with this update?

Select users that received the One UI 7 beta can already see the changes Samsung has made to both the appearance and functionality of its phone software.

UI redesign and Home screen experience

  • Redesigned Home Screen: Samsung has simplified the look of the One UI home screen with redesigned icons featuring darker colors and gradient backgrounds, widgets that align more closely with app icons, reduced visual clutter for more intuitive customisation.
  • Vertical App Drawer: One UI 7 introduces a vertical app drawer, moving away from the horizontal approach used in previous versions. A search bar at the bottom helps you find apps quickly, and the system remembers your position in the app drawer when you return to the home screen.
  • Refined Visual Design: One UI 7 redesigns key components such as buttons, menus, notifications, and control bars with curves and circles, providing a more consistent visual experience with vibrant colors, smooth animations, and innovative blur effects.
  • Customisable App & Widget Style: Users can adjust the size of app icons, choose whether to display names under icons, and change the shape, background color, and transparency of widgets.

Smart Features and Galaxy AI

  • Now Bar: Similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island feature, the new Now Bar uses a pill-shaped interface to host live widgets, including timers, playback controls, translation interfaces and voice recording tools. It also allows you to monitor activities without unlocking your phone.
  • Better Writing Tools: Building on the Galaxy AI writing assistance introduced earlier, One UI 7 more fully integrates these tools into the OS. Simply highlight text to access spelling and grammar checks, text summaries and AI-powered formatting.
  • Call Transcription: If you record calls using the Phone app, One UI 7 will now generate automatic transcripts in 20 different languages—a feature that matches and expands upon similar capabilities available to Pixel and iPhone users.
  • Audio Eraser: This new feature easily removes unwanted sounds from videos, such as wind noise or background disturbances.
  • AI Select: Automatically recommends actions based on selected content – when you select a schedule, it provides an option to add it to the calendar, and when you select an image, it recommends options to edit the image.
  • Google Gemini Integration: Launch Google Gemini by long-pressing the side button, which now works seamlessly with Samsung apps like Calendar, Samsung Notes, Reminders, and Clock.
  • Drawing Assistant: Create custom images from sketches or text prompts, replacing the previous sketch conversion feature.

Camera and media improvements

  • Camera App Redesign: Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the redesigned Camera app, which makes advanced settings more accessible, features a simplified manual settings layout and provides greater control over zoom speed when shooting video in Pro mode.
  • Enhanced Zoom Function: A standard 2x zoom button is provided, and when you select a lens, the zoom button expands to quickly adjust magnification.
  • Log Video Format: Professional-grade video recording format for professional color correction later.
  • Exposure Monitor: Shows zebra patterns for areas with low/high exposure in Pro and Pro video modes.
  • Gallery Improvements: New collage layouts that can be freely edited, story collage editing, and powerful video editing tools including automatic highlight clip extraction.

Security and privacy

  • Stolen Device Protection: Automatically locks screen when theft is detected or network connection is lost; you can also manually lock the screen remotely.
  • Knox Matrix: With “multi-layered, intelligent threat monitoring between connected Samsung devices” that monitors security risks and provides solutions.
  • Maximum Restrictions: Suite updates that allow users to block 2G cell services and prevent automatic reconnection to unsecure Wi-Fi networks.
  • Photo Privacy: Options to remove location data from photos and prevent automatic download of attachments in apps like Messages.
  • Biometric Authentication: Required when changing sensitive settings to prevent others from tampering with your settings even if they know your PIN, pattern, or password.

Productivity and convenience

  • Separate Quick Settings and Notification Panels: Now separated into individual panels for better organization and access.
  • Enhanced File Sharing: Uninterrupted transfers that continue via internet if direct connection is lost using Quick Share.
  • Peripheral Device Connection: Easily connect to other Samsung devices such as TVs, tablets, PCs, watches, and earbuds through quick settings.
  • Calendar Improvements: Move schedules to desired dates by dragging, create separate widgets for each calendar, and quickly calculate D-day for important events.
  • Battery Protection Improvements: More granular control over maximum charge (80-95%) and optimised charging effects for different screens.
  • Weather Updates: Activity-specific weather forecasts for running, biking, camping, and other outdoor activities.
  • Game Optimisation: Revamped Game Booster in-game panel and game-specific customisation options.

Should you update to One UI 7?

One UI 7 will eventually be available for your device, bringing with it the foundation of Android 15 and Samsung’s unique enhancements. However, the decision to update is entirely yours. If you’re happy with your current One UI 6 experience, there’s no immediate pressure to change.

For those who prefer the latest features and improvements, One UI 7 is worth considering. Just remember that as with any major software update, backing up your data beforehand is always a good practice. If you’re on the beta, transitioning to the stable release will offer a more polished experience. If not, keep an eye out for the update notification, which you’ll receive if automatic updates are enabled. The rollout is underway, starting this April.

Ultimately, the choice is yours to weigh the benefits of the new features, including the AI enhancements previously seen on the Galaxy S25 series, against any potential concerns.
