About
Drew Durbin co-founded Wave Mobile Money to challenge one of African fintech's longest-standing assumptions: that mobile money had to be expensive. Starting in Senegal and expanding across Francophone West Africa, Wave used dramatically lower fees, simple pricing and a consumer-first product to force incumbents to rethink the economics of financial services. The company quickly became one of the region's most recognised fintech brands, raising significant capital while reaching millions of customers. Durbin belongs on the Borderless 100 because Wave demonstrated that affordability itself could be a competitive advantage and that lowering the cost of moving money could materially expand financial access.
