Islam Shawky co-founded Paymob after seeing how poorly existing payment systems served Egypt's emerging digital businesses. What began as an Egyptian payments company has grown into infrastructure serving merchants and financial institutions across Africa and the Middle East. Paymob now reports more than 12 million users, 150,000 agents and over 120 million transactions. Its expansion has included markets such as Oman, where it became the first international fintech to receive a Payment Service Provider licence. Shawky belongs on Borderless 100 as a North African bridge-builder, connecting Egypt's enormous digital economy to a wider regional payments network.
