About
David Ajala built Africhange from an immigrant's frustration with the cost and friction of moving money across borders. Founded in 2020, the company has grown into a cross-border payments platform serving more than 200,000 users globally and facilitating over two million transactions across more than 100 countries. Its Canadian operations are registered with FINTRAC, while its UK business is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority as an Authorised Payment Institution.
The bigger achievement, however, is Africhange's move from being another remittance app to owning more of the infrastructure behind the transaction. In 2024, its Nigerian subsidiary, Currenzo, secured a Central Bank of Nigeria International Money Transfer Operator licence, allowing Africhange to process inward remittances into Nigeria directly rather than relying entirely on intermediary rails.
