About
Allan Okoth is the co-founder and CTO of Kolan (originally Hurupay), the East African cross-border payments platform he built alongside Philip Mburu and James Mugambi after the three met through the Sankore Academy blockchain coding camp. Based in Kenya, Okoth leads the technical development of Kolan's platform — designing the blockchain-adjacent systems that process stablecoin-backed cross-border payments and connect merchants, consumers, and financial institutions across the region. His engineering leadership has been central to Kolan's ability to offer virtual USD, EUR, and GBP accounts and expand into crypto trading and US equities.
Okoth belongs on the Borderless 100 because the technical infrastructure being built in East Africa will shape how the next generation of workers and businesses on the continent move money. The payment rails he is engineering at Kolan represent part of that infrastructure, built under the pressures of real regulatory and market constraints rather than theoretical ones.
